Mechanical Technician-Rotating Equipment

Primary purpose of the job :

Carry out, as directed, daily Mechanical Rotating Equipment Maintenance activities associated with the LNG Process Train, Offsite Facilities, Utilities and Off-Plot Facilities, including preventive, predictive and breakdown maintenance. The nominated Maintenance Supervisor will assign the work.

Duties and responsibilities :

• Reports to the Nominated Qatar Gas Maintenance Supervisor.
• Capable of doing basic rotating equipment maintenance work both in the field and in Workshop.
• Carries out preventive and Corrective maintenance work as directed on rotating equipment.
• Performs Overhauls of rotating equipment (Pumps, Compressor, and Turbine) as per the Qatar gas procedures.
• Ensures that materials and spare parts are available and are in good condition before starting maintenance activity.
• Able to read and understand technical drawings related to Turbo machinery / rotating equipment.
• Provides accurate records and closeout reports of all completed work as per Company requirements, as requested and guided by Supervisor.
• Participates in troubleshooting of Machinery related problems, as directed and guided by Supervisor.
• Capable to understand the cross-sectional drawings, procedures & other related documents related to the rotating equipment’s.
• Understand mechanical seals types, classification, overhauling, lapping & static leak testing on the test bench.
• Uses precisions measuring tools to take all the dimensions, clearances of the equipment.
• Understand balancing techniques & able to perform the dynamic balancing of the rotors assembly.
• Quality Control Measures for all Maintenance-related activities using checklist.
• Ability to torque rotating equipment as per the required tables & manufacturer criteria.
• Participates in Regular Toolbox meeting with colleagues.
• Reports all Near Misses, Incidents and Accidents during operation.
• To work together in team to accomplish tasks.

Experience, Knowledge and skills :

• Educational Qualifications: Minimum Higher Secondary School Education with a technical diploma or certificate from a recognized institution
• Relevant Work Experience: Minimum 5 years of experience on rotating equipment’s, of which at least 3years under Maintenance role in diversified Oil & Gas Industry / petrochemical / process plant or a major Power Utility.
• Computer Skills: Computer literate with Microsoft Office software.
• English Language Skills: Good written and oral communication skills in English
• Trade Certificate / Specialized Trainings: Mechanical seal testing, Dynamic Balancing, Hydraulic Torqueing, Overhead crane & rigging.
• Certification: Certificate from a specialist Bolting Company as a Torque machine operator

Job Specific Requirements:

• Must understand and be able to carry out measurements, rotating equipment alignment (dial & laser).
• Sufficient experience & knowledge in turbo-machinery maintenance and troubleshooting, e.g., gas and steam turbines, compressors (centrifugal and reciprocating), pumps (all types), mechanical seals, gear box, fans and blowers of machinery related equipment/devices such as gearbox, heat exchangers, filters, etc.
• The oretical and practical knowledge of Pumps, Compressors, Blowers, Air Coolers, Boilers and other process plant equipment.
• Knowledgeable of Stationary/Rotating Equipment including its Operations and Principles inclusive of Seals, Bearings, Vibrations and Lubrication.
• A strong focus on safety is paramount and practical knowledge of permit to work systems and lock out / tag out procedures applicable to LNG / Petrochemical plants is required.
• Familiar with and experienced in working with H2S rich processes, water handling equipment, desalination plant, waste systems and general utility services.
• Ensure compliance at all times with the Qatar Gas Environmental Health and Safety Procedures, as well as occupational health and safety regulations: similarly compliance with security.
• Works with the complexities of a multi-cultural and multi-national environment.
